New Music America

Rippleworks gave visitors of the Japan-American Cultural and Community Center in LA an opportunity to listen to nature’s rhythms more deeply.

With underwater microphones, water probes, and vibrating strings, Odland tapped the fractal music of water. The Japanese Garden’s stream offered naturally occurring rhythms and harmonics. This sonic fractal played back in real-time through special ceramic loudspeakers.
